I know its been a while since I have updated this blog and I have been feeling like I should start adding to it so here's a quick update for you.
My wife and I have been learning a great deal about eating raw. One of the biggest mistakes we made in the first 4 weeks was not getting enough calories. Into the third and fourth week we began to feel cold all of the time and we were constantly tired and moody. We knew that the diet choice was 100% right for us but we didn't quite know what we were doing wrong. It wasn't until I started watching Durianrider on YouTube that I learned the importance of calorie intake.
As soon as we learned the importance of calories we started eating 2,500-3,000 calories per day and instantly our energy levels sky rocketed. Our mood improved and our sleep became more restful. Unfortunately we could not keep up with the lack of fresh fruit available in our area so we have made the decision to supplement our caloric intake with whole grains like brown rice, potatoes, whole wheat pastas, and fresh home made whole wheat sourdough bread.
We have never felt any better. My wife keeps telling me she is feeling more and more like she did as a kid growing up and that has become a testimony to her of the truth of what we are doing. I myself have been a lot more energetic. I can feel it almost bubbling out of me sometimes and my drive to exercise is surprising. We have both signed up to participate in a 5k mud run which we are currently training for. I will definitely keep you posted on our progress and when the day comes I will make an effort to get pictures up.
I have also been writing a research paper for my english class. The focus of the paper was initially about the vegan diet and the science behind some of the nutritional claims but I have learned so much about protein that I have narrowed my subject down to just that. Once the paper is complete I will be posting that up as well. I have been really excited learning about protein and the facts surrounding it leads you to a vegan lifestyle, unless of course you like to calorie restrict! I know how miserable I felt when calorie restricting (unknowingly) and that is not a ride I would recommend to anyone.
Thanks for reading and stay tuned!
